A collected record

The short posts and the long ones.

This archive gathers the public entries I could recover from the old blog, including longer pieces, captions, and photographs available in its listings. The long reads

2010

Two unedited pieces on the Raptors and the season that was.

The Toronto Raptors are Better WITHOUT Chris Bosh

I’ve said it once and i’ll say it again… The Toronto Raptors are a better team this year without Chris Bosh, then last they were last year, with CB4.

I’ve been waiting for this day for about 2 years and we are just weeks away from the start to the 2010/2011 NBA season!

The Toronto Raptors would have NEVER won anything with Chris Bosh being our “number 1” guy. He’s like Kevin Garnett when KG was on the wolves… He needed to go somewhere with a Super Star (Paul Pierce ). He had to man up and be a number two and sometimes, even a number three… IF CB4 would have been man enough to let someone else take the spot light in Toronto (like he’s doing in Miami - number 3) then this team could have been… who knows - it’s the past now anyway.

It’s time for the “young gunz” to step up.

It’s time for Andrea Bargnani to step up - BIG TIME. (Even though the Raptors still need to find a true center and let Bargs slide to the 4 spot and be out Dirk… Dampier?!)

It’s time to let this team play like a team - like the Pistons of 2003-04… They had no business winning a championship. They did it with hard work, playing together and working as a unit. In a couple short years we saw a team do this:

2002
Eliminated Toronto, three games to two
Lost to Boston, four games to one

2003
Eliminated Orlando, four games to three
Eliminated Philadelphia, four games to two
Lost to New Jersey, four games to none

2004
Eliminated Milwaukee, four games to one
Eliminated New Jersey, four games to three
Eliminated Indiana, four games to two
Eliminated L.A. Lakers, four games to one
WORLD CHAMPIONS

I think with the players the Raptors have (minus that center we still need) and the cap room that Bryan Colangelo has created (and no fake number 1 guy) that we finally have the right ingredients to make that 4 year push. Everyone is under contract. Someone can still emerge as a true number 1 (Demar, Week, etc…). Draft. Trades. Cap room… I’m excited to see what the future holds.

That is all. Till next time.

To Win or Not to Win… Toronto Raptors

It all comes down to the final game of the year… (And what Chicago does tonight against charlotte) but I am not sure what I want to happen… I know everyone always says you want to make it into the playoffs and blah blah blah but is it worth losing our draft pick to Miami? Will Bosh even be fit to play? Is there any chance of us beating the (soon to be world champion) Cavs!?

This year in raptor land has been such an emotional roller coaster… at one point we were looking SO GOOD! Even my year long wish of Hedo coming off the bench was answered - too bad it was because he is playing so shit - but I think that should have been the move right from the start… Sure he’s getting paid 10 mill a year but look at Lamar Odom of the Lakers – he’s getting around 8 mill a year and no one says anything there… Besides, should your paycheck determine who starts?

Hedo would have been great coming off the bench. He could have handled the ball more and tossed up many more shots. With him in the starting lineup – having to share shots with CB4 and Bargs – there just weren’t enough touches to go around!

Anyway, yet again, this has been a year of many injuries and so many false hopes… regardless of what happens with the playoffs, the next big question is… CB4!? Will he stay or will he go?

If I had things my way – he’d be gone in a sign and trade for a good young stub (2 guard or 3) and maybe a draft pick. Don’t get me wrong – Bosh is good – he puts a lot of work into being good… But I’ve never thought he’s GREAT – not a number 1. Would he even be as good if we had a true number 1 - like a Wade or James – if he didn’t average around 20 shots a game? Give David West those touches (who pretty much has the same stats) or a Kendrick Perkins – He only averages 7 shots a game!

Everyone puts Bosh in the LBJ or the D Wade class, but really, should he be? Should he get the same scratch as those two guys? Hell NO! Bosh is a number two at best. Look at Garnett – he needed a Paul Peirce to complete him… that’s what Bosh needs. So if our only way to keep Bosh is the give him max money and run our offence through him… I’d say this should be his last year in a raps uni…

That is all.

For now.

Fashion meets the internet

2009

A long post about independent fashion retail and the web.

Fashion, meet the internet.

Hello Fashion - Meet the internet!

Now, when I say fashion, I mean you – the retailer. And when I say the internet, I mean retailcommon. Retailers have never been to a place like retailcommon before… it’s never existed.

People don’t understand what the retailer means to the world of fashion and I don’t mean just any retailer, I mean you independents guys… in your brick and mortar stores.

Most think you’re just another outlet where they can find their favorite brands or where they can get that latest jean they saw their favorite celebrity wearing on TV or in a Magazine.

We know you guys are more than that. We know you represent some of the world’s best brands but still have your own personality hanging in those racks. Or how you spend countless hours looking at hundreds of pieces from showroom to showroom, brand to brand, trying to find those keepers, while at the same time, hoping to leave those “dogs” on the rack. We also know what’s keeping you up at night… When should you go on sale? What’s your budget at? Your open-to-buy? Or if you should invest that extra hard earned cash to go to that tradeshow? New York? Vegas?

That is why retailcommon is such an excellent tool for you and your business. Whether you’re buying product through one of the many showrooms or just looking for that next brand to fit in your store. retailcommon is there! Not only can you save time and money, you can also connect to your brands, distributors and fellow retailers, helping you answer some of those immeasurable questions so you can get back to what you do best – fashion.

And remember, like you, every person has their own personality and with retailcommon also connecting you to millions of consumer worldwide… there’s bound to be a few people who saw what you saw and want that T-Shirt in red… even if the “best seller” was in blue… or if it was a dog in your store… maybe your existing customers just didn’t get it…

Long live fashion and the retailer, and may you now live longer with the internet, and retailcommon.
